Quick answer

  • You can camp in Ras Al Khaimah in three settings: the mountains (Jebel Jais), the desert, and the beach.
  • For comfort, Bear Grylls Explorers Camp on Jebel Jais and established beach campgrounds offer ready-made setups.
  • The best time to camp is October to April, when nights are cool and pleasant.
  • Wild camping is possible in remote areas — follow leave-no-trace rules and avoid private or restricted land.
  • Bring plenty of water, warm layers for winter nights, and a way to navigate offline.

Ras Al Khaimah is the UAE’s best emirate for camping, with three very different settings within an hour or so of each other: the cool heights of Jebel Jais, the golden desert dunes inland, and quiet stretches of beach along the coast. You can rough it wild, or book a ready-made camp with tents, meals and activities. The comfortable season runs from October to April.

Camping on Jebel Jais (the mountains)

The UAE’s highest mountain is a favourite for cooler, star-filled nights. There is a designated camping area with basic facilities, and the temperature drop — often 5–10°C below the coast — makes summer nights bearable and winter nights genuinely cold, so pack warm layers. Combine a camp with sunrise views, hiking, or the famous Jebel Jais zipline. Our full Jebel Jais guide covers access, timings and what to do up there.

Bear Grylls Explorers Camp

For camping without the logistics, Bear Grylls Explorers Camp on Jebel Jais offers dome tents and adventure programmes — survival skills, hiking and abseiling — in a spectacular mountain setting. It is a great choice for families and first-time campers who want the experience with beds, meals and guides included.

Desert camping

Inland, the dunes offer classic Arabian desert camping — total quiet, big skies and dramatic sunrises. You can pitch your own camp in the open desert or join a desert safari that includes an overnight stay, dinner and activities like dune bashing and stargazing. Bedouin-style camps provide the atmosphere with none of the setup.

Beach camping

The coastline north towards Al Rams has peaceful spots for beach camping, where you can fall asleep to the sound of the Gulf. For a fuss-free option with facilities, established sites such as Longbeach Campground offer set-up tents and amenities right by the sea — see our Longbeach Campground review. Wild camping rules and what to bring

Wild camping is broadly tolerated in remote parts of Ras Al Khaimah, but respect the basics: avoid private, fenced or clearly restricted land, take all your rubbish home, and do not light fires where prohibited. Bring far more water than you think you need, warm layers for cold desert and mountain nights, sun protection, a first-aid kit, and offline maps — mobile signal can vanish. Check conditions first with our weather guide and the best time to visit.
