The verdict

Is Longbeach Campground Ras Al Khaimah worth it?

Longbeach Campground is a beachfront glamping site on the Ras Al Khaimah coast — cabins and tents on the sand rather than a hotel with rooms and corridors. It is the most unusual stay covered on this site and appeals to travellers who want a night under the stars with the sea a few steps away, not a resort with a buffet and a kids club. Expect basic facilities by five-star standards and a limited dining offer, so plan meals rather than assuming choice. It works best as one or two nights alongside a resort stay, or for couples who would rather hear waves than air conditioning.

Every other property in this guide is a hotel. This is a campground, and the comparison is not really useful — you are choosing it precisely because it is not a resort.

Go in with the right expectations. The setting does the work; the facilities are deliberately simple. For one or two nights, that is the appeal rather than the drawback.

Why stay here

What makes it special

01

Directly on the sand

Cabins and tents sit on the beach itself, so the sea is a few steps from your door rather than across a resort complex.

02

Stars instead of streetlights

Away from the resort strips and city lights, the night sky is a genuine reason to book rather than a marketing line.

03

A real alternative to the resorts

Nothing else on the Ras Al Khaimah coast offers this kind of stay, which makes it a useful one or two-night contrast.

04

Quiet by design

No entertainment programme, no nightclub, no crowds — the atmosphere is low-key and deliberately so.

The location

Where exactly is it?

The campground sits directly on the Ras Al Khaimah coast, away from the resort strips of Al Marjan Island and Al Hamra. Allow around 75 minutes from Dubai International. Dhayah Fort, the Suwaidi Pearl Farm and the Jebel Jais mountain road are all reachable as day trips.

What it’s actually like

Glamping with resort facilities — and a season that closes for the summer

Longbeach Campground is run by BM Hotels & Resorts on a 300-metre stretch of beach on the Ras Al Khaimah coast, and it is not camping. You do not bring anything. Tents are pitched, beds are made, there is an infinity pool with a bar, a waterslide, a floating cinema screen on the water and a supervised kids’ club. Rates start from around AED 400 and all-inclusive packages are sold.

It suits families who want their children outdoors, couples who want one unusual night rather than a week in a hotel, and groups who would find a conventional resort dull. TripAdvisor rates it 4.5 from about 1,123 reviews, ranking it second of fifteen specialty lodgings in the emirate.

Two things should stop some people booking. First, it is seasonal: BM runs a defined season that opens in September and closes before the summer heat, so a July booking is not possible and the dates move year to year. Second, the two cheapest tent categories have shared bathrooms and fans rather than air conditioning, and meals are served in fixed windows — breakfast between 7am and 9am, dinner between 7pm and 9pm. If you arrive expecting hotel flexibility you will be disappointed by both.

Location

The campground sits directly on the beach on the Ras Al Khaimah coast, on the same stretch served by BM Hotels & Resorts’ other beachfront property. It is a drive from anywhere: no town outside the gate and no shops, which is part of the appeal but means arriving with whatever you need.

It is not a base for Al Marjan Island. If you want the island and its promenade, look at hotels on Al Marjan Island instead. Jebel Jais is a realistic day trip from here, and combining a night at Longbeach with a mountain day is a sensible way to use it.

Rooms and suites

There are five tent categories, and the difference between the bottom and the top of the range is very large.

  • Authentic Deluxe Tent — 13 sqm, sleeps two adults and two children, mattresses on the floor, fans, shared bathrooms
  • Authentic Family Tent — 28 sqm, two queen mattresses, shared bathrooms; BM publishes 41 of these
  • Safari Suite Tent — 45 sqm, queen and twin beds, private bathroom, air conditioning, private patio
  • Panoramic Dome Suite Tent — 56 sqm, transparent hexagonal dome, queen and bunk beds, private bathroom, private outdoor area with a jacuzzi; BM publishes 11 of these
  • Sunset Terrace Suite — 143 sqm, two adults only, air-conditioned bedroom, private bathroom, sauna, outdoor jacuzzi, hammock and direct beach access

BM publishes unit counts for some categories but not a site total, so we cannot tell you how many tents there are overall. The practical point is the air conditioning line: the two Authentic categories have fans and shared bathroom blocks, the three suite categories have private bathrooms and cooling. On a warm September or May night that difference decides whether you sleep.

Beach, pool, and facilities

The facilities are what separate this from camping. There is an infinity pool with a bar attached, a separate waterslide pool, and the 300-metre beach in front. Watersports run off the sand: paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skis, banana boats and water skiing.

Evening entertainment is the part guests remember. A floating theatre screens films over the water after dark, there is a nightly bonfire with marshmallows, and live performances run through the season. Daytime activities include yoga, archery, pottery, beach volleyball and table tennis. A Kiddos Club runs supervised sessions, and BM lists barn experiences with animals for younger children.

Dining

Dining is simple and it is scheduled. The Beach Dining Area serves breakfast from 7am to 9am and dinner from 7pm to 9pm, with a nightly barbecue and live cooking stations. The Infinity Pool Bar runs from 8am to midnight for drinks and lighter food.

All-inclusive packages are available and cover beach, pool and outdoor spa access along with watersports and activities. For most stays that is the sensible way to book, because there is nowhere else to eat. If board basis is what you are optimising for, compare the best all-inclusive resorts in Ras Al Khaimah to see what the same money buys in a conventional hotel.

Family suitability

Strong for families with children old enough to enjoy it. The pool, the waterslide, the kids’ club, the bonfire, the animals and the outdoor cinema give children a genuinely different holiday, and the beach is safe and shallow.

It is harder with babies and toddlers. Shared bathrooms in the cheaper tents, sand everywhere, fixed dinner at 7pm and no in-tent kitchen all work against very young children. Families with under-threes should either book a suite category or compare the best family hotels in Ras Al Khaimah.

Couples suitability

The Sunset Terrace Suite is a genuinely good couples product: 143 sqm, adults only, a sauna, an outdoor jacuzzi and direct beach access, in a setting no hotel room can replicate. For a one- or two-night escape it is the most interesting thing in this price bracket in Ras Al Khaimah.

Longer than two nights and most couples will want more variety than one restaurant and one bar can provide. If you want a desert equivalent with full resort service, the Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi Desert is the obvious comparison, at several times the price.

What is good

  • Genuinely different from every hotel in the emirate
  • Real resort facilities: infinity pool, waterslide, watersports, kids’ club
  • Floating cinema, nightly bonfire and a full activity programme
  • Direct beach access on a 300-metre stretch
  • All-inclusive packages available
  • 4.5 from about 1,123 TripAdvisor reviews

What is not good

  • Seasonal — it closes for the summer and dates shift year to year
  • The two cheapest tent categories have shared bathrooms and fans, not air conditioning
  • Fixed meal windows: breakfast 7–9am, dinner 7–9pm
  • One dining area and one bar; nothing outside the gate
  • BM does not publish a total unit count
  • Comfort depends on the weather on your dates

Value verdict

From around AED 400 a night, an Authentic tent is not cheap for shared bathrooms and a fan. Judged as accommodation alone, that is poor value. Judged as an all-inclusive stay with watersports, a kids’ club, an outdoor cinema and a full activity programme, it reads very differently — you are buying the programme, not the bed.

The suite categories are where the value case is cleanest. A Safari or Panoramic Dome tent gives you a private bathroom and air conditioning for a rate that still undercuts a comparable beach resort room, and you keep the setting. Price the all-inclusive package against room-only before you decide, and check live rates for your dates.

Who should book Longbeach Campground?

Book it if you want an outdoor beach holiday with the logistics handled, if you have children who would rather be in a tent than a hotel room, or if you want one memorable night on the coast. Book a suite category if comfort matters, and book the all-inclusive package if you are staying more than a night.

Who should skip it?

Skip it if you need air conditioning and a private bathroom at the cheapest rate, if you travel with very young children, if you want to eat when you feel like it, or if you are planning a summer trip — it will be closed. Skip it too if you want a conventional hotel, in which case start with the Ras Al Khaimah hotel directory.

FAQ

Is Longbeach Campground open all year?

No. It runs a defined season, reopening in September and closing before the summer. The exact dates change each year — the 2025 season opened on 18 September, and BM publishes the current season’s dates and early-bird rates on its own site. Check them before booking flights.

Is this camping or glamping?

Glamping. Tents are pitched and furnished, beds are made, bathrooms are provided, and there is an infinity pool, a waterslide, a kids’ club and a restaurant on site. You bring luggage, not equipment. The cheapest tents are still basic, with shared bathrooms and fans instead of air conditioning.

Do all the tents have private bathrooms?

No. The Authentic Deluxe and Authentic Family tents use shared bathroom blocks and have fans rather than air conditioning. The Safari Suite, Panoramic Dome Suite and Sunset Terrace Suite all have private bathrooms and air-conditioned sleeping areas. Check the category carefully before you book.

Is Longbeach Campground all-inclusive?

All-inclusive packages are available and cover beach, pool and outdoor spa access plus watersports and activities, but they are not the only rate sold. Because there is one dining area and one bar on site and nothing nearby, pricing the package is worth doing for any stay over one night.

Bottom line

Longbeach Campground is the most interesting non-hotel stay in Ras Al Khaimah, and the facilities put it a long way from camping. Book a suite category, book the all-inclusive package, and check the season dates first. Book the cheapest tent expecting a hotel and you will spend the night walking to a shared bathroom block wondering where the AED 400 went.

How this review was prepared

This review is desk research. It draws on BM Hotels & Resorts’ own published material for the campground, on reporting from named outlets covering previous seasons, and on verified guest-review data from TripAdvisor. It is not based on a paid or hosted stay, and RAKTraveller did not receive accommodation from the property.

Where the operator publishes no figure — the total number of tents on site — we say so rather than estimating. Season dates, rates and facilities change every year; confirm them with the campground before booking.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

What kind of accommodation is this?

Cabins and tents on the beach rather than hotel rooms. It is a glamping site, so expect a bed and shelter on the sand with shared or simple facilities, not a resort bathroom and room service. Confirm exactly what your unit includes when booking.

Is it suitable for families?

It can be, for older children who will enjoy the novelty. Younger children and anyone who needs resort facilities, a kids club or reliable air conditioning will be better served at one of the Al Marjan Island resorts.

What about food?

Dining is limited compared with a resort, so plan rather than assume. Check what is available on site before you arrive and consider bringing supplies, particularly if you are staying more than one night.

How far is it from Dubai?

Allow around 75 minutes from Dubai International. It sits away from the main resort areas on the Ras Al Khaimah coast, so factor in a drive for restaurants and attractions.

When is the best time to stay?

November to March, without much argument. This is an outdoor stay with limited climate control, so the summer months are genuinely uncomfortable. Winter nights on the coast can be cool, so bring a layer.

Ready when you are

So, is Longbeach Campground Ras Al Khaimah the right call?

If you’re after couples · glamping · something different in a three-star setting, it’s hard to beat. Winter dates book out early — lock yours in.
