What it’s actually like

The UAE’s highest camp, and it is closed right now

Camp 1770 sits at 1,770 metres on Jebel Jais, which makes it the highest organised camp in the United Arab Emirates. It is also, at the time of writing, unavailable: the official Visit Jebel Jais page for the camp carries a notice that Jebel Jais is temporarily closed for scheduled maintenance, and the mountain as a whole is in its planned summer shutdown. No reopening date for the 2026/27 season has been announced.

That is not a footnote, it is the first thing to plan around. The camp runs a defined season through the cool months to around April, and the mountain closes entirely for the summer — road, restaurants, attractions and both camps. Check the official page before you plan a date, book flights, or tell anyone this is happening. The 2025/26 season did not reopen until 31 January 2026, after a weather delay.

Location and getting there

The camp is pitched along the trails of Jebel Jais, at 1,770 metres in the Hajar range. The operator describes views taking in both the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean from the ridge.

The drive from Dubai International is about 90 minutes, the final stretch on the mountain road. When that road closes — seasonally, or at short notice after rain — the camp is simply unreachable. There is no second way up. For where to base yourself when the mountain is shut, see our hotels near Jebel Jais guide, and note there is currently no conventional hotel on the mountain at all.

Where you sleep

Pre-set dome tents, pitched by the operator before you arrive. That is the extent of what is published. No tent count, no category breakdown, no specification of bedding or bathroom arrangements, and no published rate.

We are not going to fill those gaps with assumptions. If you are considering a stay, contact Adventurati Outdoor directly and get the specifics in writing — particularly around sanitation, warmth and what you need to bring, since nights at 1,770 metres are considerably colder than anywhere else in the emirate.

Facilities and food

Food is the part the operator describes most fully: hot karak and Arabic coffee, mountain meals prepared by local Bedouin mountain tribes, and an Emirati breakfast. Communal fire pits are part of the setup.

Beyond that, treat this as a camp rather than a property with facilities. There is no pool, no spa, no shop. The mountain’s two restaurants, 1484 by Puro and Red Rock BBQ, sit elsewhere on Jebel Jais and close for the summer along with everything else.

What you actually do here

The programme is built around the mountain and around stillness: a sunrise hike to the peak, day hikes pitched at beginners, yoga, meditation and sound sessions, and evenings around the communal fire. The operator frames it for small groups, team building, or people who want quiet.

The Adventure Peak attractions — the zipline, Sky Tour and Sledder — are elsewhere on the mountain and operate only in season. See things to do in Ras Al Khaimah for what is open year-round.

Who it suits

Small groups and teams who want a shared night at altitude with the logistics handled. Hikers who want to be on the ridge for sunrise without driving up in the dark. People drawn to the yoga and meditation framing rather than adventure sports. Anyone who accepts that plans here are contingent on a mountain road.

What is good

  • The highest organised camp in the UAE, at 1,770 metres
  • Tents pre-set, so no equipment or pitching required
  • Meals cooked by local Bedouin mountain tribes, with an Emirati breakfast
  • Sunrise hikes, yoga and meditation included in the programme
  • Listed under RAKTDA’s sustainable tourism programme

What is not good

  • Currently closed, with the official page showing closed for maintenance
  • Seasonal only, roughly the cool months to April, with late-announced reopening
  • No published rates, tent counts or specifications
  • No aggregate guest score, so no independent read on the experience
  • The mountain road can close at short notice after rain
  • Genuinely cold at night, and the camp has no fallback indoor space

Value verdict

We cannot give one. No rate is published, and quoting a figure we could not verify would be worse than saying so. What we can tell you is what you are buying: a pre-set tent at the highest camp in the country, catered, with a guided sunrise hike, in a short and uncertain season. Ask Adventurati Outdoor for a written quote including meals and the hike, and judge it against that.

Who should skip it?

Skip it if your dates are fixed and non-refundable — the closure risk here is higher than anywhere else in the emirate. Skip it if you need a private bathroom, heating or certainty about what you are getting. Skip it if you feel the cold. And skip it entirely between roughly May and the season reopening, because you cannot go.

FAQ

Is Camp 1770 open?

Not at the time of writing. The official Visit Jebel Jais page shows the mountain closed for scheduled maintenance, and Jebel Jais is in its planned summer shutdown. The camp runs a defined season through the cool months to around April. Always check visitjebeljais.com before planning.

What is included in a stay?

The operator describes pre-set dome tents, communal fire pits, mountain meals cooked by local Bedouin mountain tribes, hot karak and Arabic coffee, an Emirati breakfast, a sunrise hike to the peak, and yoga and meditation sessions. Exact inclusions are not published, so confirm in writing when booking.

How cold does it get?

At 1,770 metres, considerably colder than sea-level Ras Al Khaimah, particularly overnight in the winter months when the camp operates. The operator does not publish temperature guidance or specify what bedding is provided, so ask directly and pack warm layers regardless of the coastal forecast.

Why is there no price on this page?

Because Adventurati Outdoor does not publish one, and neither does the official Jebel Jais page. Rather than repeat a figure from an unverified third party, we have left it blank and recommend requesting a direct quote that specifies meals, the guided hike and any transport.

Bottom line

A distinctive night at the top of the country, run by a credible operator, with almost nothing published and a season that starts when the mountain says so. Treat it as something to enquire about rather than something to book on a whim. More options in our Ras Al Khaimah hotel guide.

How this page was prepared

This page is desk research, drawn from official operator sources including the Visit Jebel Jais listing, not a hosted stay. No rate, tent count or guest score is quoted because none is published. Seasonal status on Jebel Jais changes without much notice — confirm directly before travelling.
