The review

What it’s actually like

A rebranded creekside city hotel with more suites than standard rooms

The former Mangrove Hotel now trades as the Sunday Mangrove Corniche Hotel, and the most interesting thing about it is the room mix. Of 172 keys, only 27 are standard rooms. There are 57 superior rooms, 82 suites and six presidential suites — so the odds are good that a mid-range booking here puts you in something with a separate sitting area, looking out over the creek and its mangroves. That is unusual value for a city hotel five minutes from downtown Ras Al Khaimah.

The reason to hesitate is the guest score, which sits at 7.8 on TripAdvisor. That is respectable rather than good, and it is the score of a hotel that gets the basics right without excelling. Reviews of properties in this bracket typically turn on service consistency and maintenance rather than on any single failing, and the recent rebrand adds a further unknown: it is too early to say whether the new operator has changed anything beyond the signage. This is not a beach hotel either — you are on the creek, not the Gulf shoreline.

Location

The hotel is on Al Khor Road beside Corniche Hall, about five minutes from downtown Ras Al Khaimah. It faces the creek and the mangrove channels that give it its name, which is a quieter and more interesting outlook than a car park, and it puts you within easy reach of the National Museum, the old town and the Corniche itself.

What you do not get is a beach. If sand outside your door is non-negotiable, look instead at Mina Al Arab or the beach resorts further along the coast, and accept the longer drive into town. Dubai International is about 70 minutes away.

Rooms

The published breakdown of the 172 keys is worth reading twice: 27 standard rooms, 57 superior rooms, 82 suites and six presidential suites. Nearly half the hotel is suites. For a business traveller staying several nights, or a family wanting a sitting area to retreat to once the children are asleep, that changes the calculation considerably compared with a conventional city hotel of the same rating.

Facilities

There is a swimming pool, a fitness centre, a spa and wellness area, and meeting and event space — the last of which matters, because this is one of the city properties that handles conferences and functions. If you are here for a quiet break, ask what is booked during your stay. Alcohol is served, which narrows the field of comparable city hotels in Ras Al Khaimah considerably.

Dining

Five outlets, which is generous for 172 rooms. Olivia is the main restaurant, described by the hotel as Mediterranean and set up to make use of the mangrove views. The Corner Café runs 24 hours for breakfast, snacks and casual meals. There is a hookah lounge open from 8am until 2am, and Mango Bar, open from 1pm until 2am with a happy hour through the late afternoon. In-room dining operates around the clock.

Who it suits

Business travellers who want meeting space, a licensed bar and a suite for the price of a room elsewhere. Couples using Ras Al Khaimah city as a base for the mountains and the old town. Anyone who would rather be five minutes from real restaurants than forty minutes from anything but their resort. It also works as a one-night stop for people flying in late and driving to Jebel Jais the next morning.

What is good

  • Nearly half the inventory is suites, which is rare at this level
  • Creek and mangrove outlook rather than a city street
  • Five outlets including a 24-hour café and a licensed bar
  • Five minutes from downtown, with pool, gym, spa and meeting space

What is not good

  • A 7.8 guest score is fair, not strong — expect competence, not polish
  • No beach; the water you can see is a creek
  • Rates are not reliably published, which makes planning harder
  • Recently rebranded, so current reviews may describe a different operation

Value verdict

We are not going to quote a headline rate, because the hotel does not publish one consistently and a guessed figure would be worse than none. Check live rates and judge it on one test: does a suite here cost less than a standard room at a comparable four-star with the same facilities? When it does — which is often — the value case is straightforward. When it does not, the 7.8 score does not justify a premium.

Who should skip it?

Skip it if you are coming to Ras Al Khaimah for a beach holiday, because you will spend your week driving to one. Skip it if you want a resort experience with children’s facilities. And skip it if you need certainty about condition and service — the rebrand means the reviews you are reading may predate the change, and nobody can yet tell you what the new operation is like.

FAQ

Is Sunday Mangrove Corniche Hotel the same as the Mangrove Hotel?

Yes. It is the former Mangrove Hotel, recently rebranded under the Sunday name. The building, the location on Al Khor Road and the 172-key room count are unchanged. Older reviews and listings appear under the previous name, so check the date on anything you read before treating it as current.

Does the hotel have a beach?

No. It sits on the creek beside the mangroves, with Gulf views in the distance, but there is no private beach and no direct sand access. There is an outdoor swimming pool on site. For beach access you would need to drive to the Corniche or south towards Mina Al Arab and Al Hamra.

How many restaurants does it have?

Five food and drink outlets. Olivia is the main restaurant, The Corner Café runs 24 hours, there is a hookah lounge open until 2am, and Mango Bar serves drinks from early afternoon until 2am with a happy hour. In-room dining is available around the clock.

Bottom line

A dependable city hotel with an unusually suite-heavy room mix, a creekside outlook and five outlets, five minutes from downtown Ras Al Khaimah. The 7.8 score tells you not to expect brilliance, and the rebrand means the picture is still settling. Book it for the suite, the location and the bar — not for a beach holiday it was never designed to provide.

How this page was prepared

Desk research, not a hosted stay. Room counts, outlet names, opening hours and facilities were taken from the hotel’s own website in September 2026 and cross-checked against verified guest-review data. Where the hotel does not publish something — room dimensions and headline rates in particular — we have said so rather than estimated. Guest scores are attributed to their source.
