What it’s actually like

Aman’s second brand comes to Al Marjan Island, targeted for late 2028

Janu Al Marjan Island is a 132-key resort under Janu, the second brand of the Aman Group, announced by the development partners of Wynn Al Marjan Island together with Marjan LLC. It sits directly across from the Wynn site, and it is the most exclusive thing announced for the island after Wynn itself.

The scale is the point. At 132 keys this is a fraction of the size of its neighbours, several of which run to three and four hundred rooms. That is deliberate. This is not a review — the resort does not exist and cannot be booked.

Opening date

The announced target is late 2028, given at announcement by the project’s development partners. It is a soft date in the sense that it names a half-year rather than a month, but it is an operator-side statement rather than a press inference, which places it above the projects here whose years were supplied by others.

There is no record of this date having been revised, though it has not been in the public domain long enough for that to mean much. Late 2028 is far enough out that no reasonable person should treat it as fixed: it sits beyond the revised Wynn opening, and on this island dates at that range have historically moved.

At a glance

  • Keys: 132
  • Position: across from the Wynn Al Marjan Island site

  • Residential: adjoining Janu Residences
  • Drive from Dubai International: about 80 minutes

Where it sits on Al Marjan Island

Janu sits across from Wynn Al Marjan Island, which is the most commercially valuable position on the development and not a coincidence — the announcement came from Wynn’s own development partners alongside Marjan LLC. The two projects are intended to work together, with Janu offering a quieter, smaller counterpoint to the resort opposite.

See the Al Marjan Island area guide for the island’s layout, or the Wynn section for the project it faces.

What is being built

The announced programme is 132 keys, a wellness centre incorporating a banya and a hammam, two restaurants, a mixology bar and a nightlife venue, with Janu Residences adjoining.

Janu is Aman’s more social, more outward-facing brand, positioned deliberately against Aman’s own reserve, and the inclusion of a nightlife venue in a 132-key resort reflects that. The wellness centre is the element most likely to define the property in practice, but its size and treatment range have not been published.

Who it looks right for

On the announced shape, this is aimed at couples and wellness-led travellers who want something small and expensive rather than large and comprehensive. A 132-key resort with two restaurants is not built for families in the way that a 400-key property with seven is.

The Aman association will also draw guests on brand alone. Note that Janu is a distinct brand rather than a cheaper Aman, and it is meant to feel different in kind, not just in price.

What is still unconfirmed

  • Whether late 2028 holds. It is more than two years out and untested.
  • Construction progress. No milestone or percentage has been published.
  • Rates. Nothing has been indicated at any level.
  • Room categories and how many of the 132 keys are suites or villas.
  • The wellness centre’s size and treatment range.
  • The restaurants and the nightlife venue by name or concept.
  • Whether the wellness centre and nightlife venue admit non-residents.

Where to stay on Al Marjan Island in the meantime

Nothing currently open on Al Marjan Island occupies the same niche, because nothing there is that small or that expensive. The closest in ambition is SO/ Ras Al Khaimah, with Rixos Bab Al Bahr the largest established resort on the island.

FAQ

What is Janu?

Janu is the Aman Group’s second brand, created as a more social and wellness-forward counterpart to Aman’s traditional reserve. It is a separate brand rather than a lower tier of Aman, and Al Marjan Island will be one of its earliest properties.

How big will it be?

One hundred and thirty-two keys, which makes it among the smallest hotels announced for the island by a wide margin. Two restaurants, a mixology bar, a nightlife venue and a wellness centre with banya and hammam have been announced alongside adjoining Janu Residences.

Can I book or register interest?

Not for the hotel. It is under construction with a late 2028 target, no reservation system exists and no rates have been set. The adjoining residences are a separate property sale and are not hotel inventory.

Bottom line

The most interesting thing announced for Al Marjan Island after Wynn, and the only project deliberately built small. Late 2028 is an operator-side target more than two years out, so treat it as a direction of travel. If it lands as described, it will be the emirate’s most exclusive address.

How this page was prepared and when it was last checked

Compiled from developer and operator announcements and named trade press, not from a stay. Opening dates in the UAE move often, and a target more than two years out should be expected to shift at least once. Last checked September 2026.
