Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort
The emirate’s first overwater villas, on a quiet mangrove-backed peninsula ten minutes from RAK airport.
Is Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort worth it?
Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort is a 174-key five-star resort on a private peninsula in Mina Al Arab, backed by natural mangroves and looking out to open Gulf. It is best known for having the UAE’s first overwater villas, each with a private plunge pool, deck and reserved cabana on a villa-only beach. Rates start around AED 432 for a Premier Room. Anantara puts Ras Al Khaimah International at 20 minutes and Dubai International at 45 to 60 minutes. At just 174 rooms it is markedly quieter than the 350-to-650-key resorts elsewhere in the emirate, which makes it a strong pick for couples. There is no all-inclusive option, only half-board Dine Around packages.
Overwater villas are the headline, and they earn it — they are the first in the UAE and they look out over a mangrove lagoon rather than a building site, which matters more than the brochures admit.
The less obvious strength is scale. At 174 keys you are not queuing, not fighting for loungers and not eating in a hall. It reads as a small resort in a market full of large ones.
What makes it special
The UAE’s first overwater villas
Each has an outdoor deck with a private plunge pool, Gulf and mangrove-lagoon views, and a reserved cabana on a villa-only beach.
Only 174 keys
The resort runs just 174 rooms, suites and pool villas, which keeps it markedly quieter than its larger neighbours.
Mangroves on the doorstep
The peninsula is ringed by natural mangroves, and the resort runs kayaking through them alongside a conservation programme.
Thai spa rituals and cooking classes
The spa delivers traditional Thai healing rituals, while Spice Spoons runs hands-on Thai cooking classes six days a week.
Which room should you book?
Views change the stay here more than square metres do — decide between sea, pool and fairway before you compare rates.

Premier Room
47 sqm with a private balcony and sea or garden outlook. Separate tub and rain shower, espresso machine, and connecting rooms available. The category carrying the lead-in rate.

Deluxe Beach Front Room
57 sqm with a private terrace giving direct beach access and sea views. Sleeps two adults and two children — the pick if you want sand outside the door.

Overwater Pool Villa
Part of a villa range spanning 82 to 365 sqm, with a private pool, dedicated villa host, private beach access and a choice of one or two bedrooms.
Where will you eat?

Mekong
The signature restaurant, taking in Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese cooking. Dinner nightly, with a Sunday brunch that is one of the better ones in the emirate.

Beach House
Mediterranean coastal cooking in a relaxed beachside setting, open from noon through midnight. Hosts a Saturday brunch on the sand.

Sea Breeze
The all-day international restaurant and the breakfast venue, serving through the morning and again for lunch. Where most guests start the day.

Where exactly is it?
The resort sits on its own peninsula of sand within Mina Al Arab, looking across a mangrove lagoon to open Gulf. Anantara puts Ras Al Khaimah International at 20 minutes from the city centre and Dubai International at 45 to 60 minutes, with Dubai itself around 120km by the E311 or E611. Jebel Jais, Dhayah Fort and the Suwaidi Pearl Farm are all day-trip range.

What it’s actually like
The emirate’s first overwater villas — and the room category decides everything
Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah opened in January 2024 on a private peninsula in Mina Al Arab, and it is the only hotel in the emirate with overwater villas. That single fact is why most people book it. With 174 rooms, suites and pool villas it is also one of the smaller five-star resorts in Ras Al Khaimah, and it feels it: low-rise buildings, mangroves behind, and a beach that never has to absorb a thousand guests.
It suits couples, honeymooners and anyone who wants a quiet beach stay rather than a large family resort. There are kids’ and teens’ clubs, so families are catered for, but this is not a waterpark hotel and it does not pretend to be one.
The reason to hesitate is that the headline and the entry price describe two different holidays. An overwater villa costs several times an entry room, so if you book the cheapest rate you get a good, quiet beach resort — not the thing the photographs sold you. There is no all-inclusive board plan either, so food and drink is charged on top of a rate that already starts high. Reviewers, including The National on a January 2024 stay, have also reported slow service and buggy waits between the far villas and the main building.

- Hotel type: Five-star beach resort, operated by Anantara (Minor Hotels)
- Size: 174 rooms, suites and pool villas, including overwater pool villas
- Opened: January 2024
- Price from: around AED 560 a night — check live rates

- Main drawback: no all-inclusive board, and a wide gap between entry rooms and the villas
Location
The resort sits on its own peninsula in Mina Al Arab, a waterfront community south of Ras Al Khaimah city, with protected mangroves behind it. The practical consequence is quiet: no promenade of restaurants outside the gate, no passing traffic. That is the point for some guests and a problem for others.
Mina Al Arab is the calmest of the three main hotel areas in the emirate. If you want more choice within walking distance, compare the wider Mina Al Arab hotel area and in particular the InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab, which is the other large resort on the same stretch.
It is not a convenient base for Al Marjan Island. If your trip is built around the island and the casino resort under construction there, look at hotels near Wynn Al Marjan Island instead; the drive from Mina Al Arab is a real journey rather than a walk.
Rooms and suites
Anantara publishes a total of 174 rooms, suites and overwater pool villas. Entry rooms run from about 47 to 57 sqm, suites from about 95 sqm, and one- and two-bedroom pool villas from about 82 sqm to roughly 365 sqm. Villas have private pools.
The overwater villas are the reason the resort exists in marketing terms. They are circular, built out over the lagoon, and come with private temperature-controlled plunge pools. Anantara does not publish a category-by-category count; The National reported 20 overwater villas on its 2024 visit, so treat that figure as reported rather than official.
Two things are worth knowing before you commit. First, the overwater villas are the furthest accommodation from the main building, so you will rely on buggies, and guests report waits at busy times. Second, an entry room at this resort is a good room, but it is not an overwater villa, and the price difference between them is substantial. Decide which holiday you are buying before you compare rates.
Beach, pool, and facilities
The resort has its own beach on the peninsula. Anantara does not publish a beach length, so we will not estimate one. There is a main pool, a children’s pool and an adults-only pool, plus the private pools attached to villas.
Anantara Spa has seven treatment rooms and runs the brand’s Thai treatment menu. Beyond that the activity list leans on the setting rather than on hardware: kayaking through the mangroves, watersports off the beach, and Spice Spoons cooking classes. If you want waterslides and a lazy river, this is the wrong resort — compare the best family hotels in Ras Al Khaimah.
Dining
There are six venues. Sea Breeze handles breakfast and all-day international dining, Beach House is Mediterranean, and Mekong covers Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese cooking. Waves Café is a deli-style stop for light bites, Jalabar is the poolside bar for drinks and shisha, and there is a lobby lounge and bar. Private Dining by Design and in-room dining are also offered.
The absence of an all-inclusive plan matters more here than at most RAK resorts, because there is nothing within walking distance. Half board is the sensible middle ground for a longer stay. If board basis is the deciding factor for you, compare the best all-inclusive resorts in Ras Al Khaimah before booking.
Family suitability
Families are welcome, and there are kids’ and teens’ clubs plus a children’s pool, but the resort is built around calm rather than entertainment. Older children who like kayaking and watersports will do well. Younger children who need a splash park and a full animation programme are better served elsewhere. Two-bedroom pool villas exist for families who want space.
Couples suitability
This is the resort’s strongest case. It is small, low-rise, quiet, and has an adults-only pool, a serious spa and a genuinely unusual room type. For honeymoons and anniversaries it is the most distinctive choice in Ras Al Khaimah, and the 4.8 TripAdvisor average suggests most guests agree.
The caveat is service pace. Reviewers describe a rhythm that reads as unhurried to some guests and slow to others. If you want brisk, drilled service, the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah is the more formal option.
What is good
- The only overwater villas in the emirate, with private plunge pools
- Small by RAK standards at 174 keys, so the beach and pools rarely feel crowded
- About ten minutes from Ras Al Khaimah International Airport
- Consistently high guest scores: 9.0 on Hotels.com, 4.8 on TripAdvisor
What is not good
- No all-inclusive board option, and no restaurants within walking distance
- The gap between entry rooms and overwater villas is large in both price and experience
- Buggy waits reported between the far villas and the main building
- Service pace is relaxed; reviewers have reported slow food service
Value verdict
At an entry rate from around AED 560, this sits where you would expect a new five-star RAK resort to sit, and on the entry room that is reasonable for a property this new and this quiet. Board basis changes the maths: with no all-inclusive plan and nothing outside the gate, a week of room-only adds up quickly.
The overwater villas are a different conversation. They have no competition in the emirate and are priced accordingly, so whether they are good value depends on what the novelty is worth to you. Check live rates on your own dates.
Who should book Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort?
Book it if you are a couple who want a quiet, new, low-rise beach resort with an unusual room type, if you are flying into Ras Al Khaimah directly, or if the overwater villa is the point of the trip and you have budgeted for it. It also suits travellers who want a calm Mina Al Arab base and are happy to eat in the resort.
Who should skip it?
Skip it if you need all-inclusive board, want restaurants within walking distance, are building the trip around Al Marjan Island, or are travelling with young children who need a full entertainment programme. Skip it too if you will only book an entry room: you pay a premium for a headline you are not using.

FAQ
Does Anantara Mina Al Arab really have overwater villas?
Yes. Anantara describes them as the first overwater villas in Ras Al Khaimah, and they are built out over the lagoon with private temperature-controlled plunge pools. The resort does not publish how many there are; The National reported 20 during a 2024 stay, which is the best figure currently available.
Is Anantara Mina Al Arab all-inclusive?
No. The resort does not offer an all-inclusive board plan. Room-only, bed and breakfast and half board are the usual options. Because there is nothing within walking distance of the peninsula, half board is worth pricing for stays longer than a few nights.
How far is the resort from the airport?
Minor Hotels puts it at about a ten-minute drive from Ras Al Khaimah International Airport and roughly 45 minutes from Dubai International. Real driving times from Dubai vary with traffic, so allow longer on a Thursday evening or a public-holiday weekend.
Is Anantara Mina Al Arab good for families?
It works for families who want space and calm, and there are kids’ and teens’ clubs plus a children’s pool. It is not the emirate’s strongest family resort, because there is no waterpark-scale entertainment and no all-inclusive plan to simplify meals.
Bottom line
Anantara Mina Al Arab is the most distinctive luxury resort in Ras Al Khaimah, and for couples booking an overwater villa it has no local rival. Book the entry room instead and you have a quiet, well-run, slightly remote beach resort at a full five-star price with no all-inclusive safety net. Decide which of those two holidays you are buying before you check rates.

Your questions, answered
How do I get there from Dubai?
Anantara states Ras Al Khaimah is roughly 120km from Dubai, a 1.5 to 2 hour drive via the E311 or E611, and offers private transfers on request. Dubai International is quoted at 45 to 60 minutes, Sharjah at 60 minutes, and Ras Al Khaimah International at 20 minutes from the city centre.
Is there a proper beach, or mainly pools?
There is a genuine private beach on the resort’s peninsula, which Anantara describes as one of the calmest stretches in the emirate. Overwater villa guests get a reserved cabana on a separate villa-only beach. There is also an infinity pool and a children’s pool.
What board basis can I book?
Room-only and bed-and-breakfast are standard. There is no all-inclusive, but Anantara runs a recurring Dine Around half-board package that bundles flexible dining across the outlets, spa credit and a kids-eat-free element. Advance-purchase and stay-longer rates offer 10 to 20 per cent savings.
Does it work for families?
Yes, though it leans more romantic than most Ras Al Khaimah resorts. There is a kids club, a teens club, a children’s pool and a playground, and rooms interconnect. One- and two-bedroom pool villas suit families needing space. Note that pets are not permitted anywhere on the property.
When should I visit?
October to April is the comfortable window and the region’s peak season, and it is also the resort’s own recommended season for hiking excursions. Summer rates drop sharply, but daytime heat routinely tops 40 degrees and limits outdoor activity to dawn and dusk.
